At the recent Family Law Seminar in Orlando, the status of the Alimony Reform Statute was discussed. There is a new bill that has not yet been completed. Nor is it accessible on the internet. The bill will revamp alimony to exclude Permanent Periodic and have primarily Durational Alimony. There will be guidelines established somewhat similar to child support guidelines. The committee working on the Bill has been told that if the House passes it the Governor will sign it. The goal is July 1st of this year. It will not be retroactive to completed cases and there is no word if it will apply to active/open cases. This is a lot to accomplish in a few months so we shall see.
