IMPACT OF REMARRIAGE ON CUSTODY ARRANGEMENTS

The fact that a parent remarries does not, of itself, require any change in the custody of a child. After a divorce, parents are free to form new relationships. As long as that new relationship does not adversely affect a child, the court is unlike to make a change in custody.

INCOME WITHHOLDING FOR CHILD SUPPORT ACTIONS

Wage withholding is a method of paying child support by having the obligation taken directly out of the parent's pay by the employer. Some parents voluntarily agree to wage withholding; others have it imposed upon them by a court.

JOINT LEGAL CUSTODY AWARDS

"Joint legal custody" (aka shared parenting) means that both parents share the right and the responsibility to make the decisions relating to the health, education, and welfare of a child.

MODIFICATION OF CUSTODY BASED ON PARENTAL UNFITNESS

If subsequent to the time a court awarded joint or sole legal custody to a parent, the parent becomes unfit to have custody of the child, a modification may be sought.
